The March 19th, 2019 deadline is fast approaching for two Glaziers’ Company work placement awards:
The Award for Excellence: a forty-week enhanced work experience programme, and – The Ashton Hill Award: a ten-week work placement training programme.
Competitions for both awards are open to graduates from a stained glass course, as well as to applicants from courses in further education, and those who have undertaken long-term training in a studio or are self-taught. The awards are open to applicants who are within seven years of completing their training. The awards training programme runs from September to June, and is tailored to the needs and interests of the award winner, offering the opportunity for further training in a variety of leading studios under the guidance of experienced professional traditional and contemporary designer/makers, top level craftsmen and conservators. The award emphasizes the development of practical skills in a working environment.
The Worshipful Glaziers have arrangements with some of the best studios in the world, who generously provide work placement training for the Worshipful Company. Students in the past have opted to participate in work placements in places such as Iceland, France, Austria, Germany and the UK. Winning students may request the Glaziers to include specific studios in a work placement training program, although not all requests can be guaranteed.
Funding: Up to £250 per week is provided to assist with subsistence, rent, and travel costs for the duration of the awards.
Entries should be emailed to the Awards Coordinator, Dr Marie Groll, awards@worshipfulglaziers.com, or posted to The Glaziers Company, Glaziers Hall, 9 Montague Close, LONDON SE1 9DD, by March 19th, 2019. More details of the awards can be found on the Competition and Awards page of the Worshipful Glaziers website.
The aim of all the Glaziers’ Company’s Awards is to raise standards of work within the craft, by offering additional training to enhance the practical and intellectual knowledge of a potential practitioner. These awards have greatly enhanced the careers of many emerging craftsmen, both conservators and designers.
