We have heard the sad news that our German CVMA colleague Ulf-Dietrich Korn died on 14 May of this year aged 82. Having studied architecture and art history in Stuttgart, Hamburg, Rome and Münster he worked from 1966 to 1968 as an assistant to Hans Wentzel, who had published the first CVMA vol-ume in 1958, moving then to Münster to join the Westfälischen Landesamt für Denkmalpflege, where he worked until his retirement, becoming in 1975 Landesoberverwaltungsrat and in 1977 Oberkonser-vator, playing an important part in promoting modern conservation methods for stained glass.
His doctoral thesis, published in 1967, was on the important twelfth-century glass at St Patrokli in Soest and he was co-author with Rüdiger Becksmann of the CVMA volume Die mittelalterlichen Glasmalereien in Lüneburg und den Heideklöstern which appeared in 1992, and the 2017 CVMA volume by Elena Kozina, Die mittelalterlichen Glasmalereien in Niedersachsen (ohne Lüneburg und die Heideklöster) used much of his preparatory work. His many other publications included articles on conservation and on the stained glass of North Germany (details can be found on the German CVMA website). Ulf also had an especial interest in heraldry and designed coats of arms for many towns and families. He was until recently a regular attender at CVMA colloquia, always accompanied by his wife Ute, both delightful, generous and friendly towards all.
